What Markpane does with your data

Markpane opens folders selected by you and reads Markdown files from those folders to render editing, preview, outline, backlinks, and saved views. It works directly with ordinary .md files and YAML frontmatter on your Mac.

Markpane stores local app state in Application Support, such as recent workspaces, saved view configuration, indexes used for local search, and the optional sample workspace copy.

What Markpane does not do

  • No account. Markpane has no sign-in and stores no user profile.
  • No app telemetry. Markpane does not collect app usage telemetry.
  • No product analytics. Markpane does not measure feature usage or behavior in the app.
  • No document upload. Markpane does not upload, sync, or host your Markdown document contents.
  • No hosted AI. Markpane does not run hosted AI on your documents. Agent Briefs are local context you copy yourself.
  • No automatic crash reporting. Markpane does not silently upload crash or error reports.

Agent Briefs and AI tools

An Agent Brief is local Markdown context prepared from files you choose. Markpane can preview that context and place it on your clipboard. It does not send the brief anywhere on its own. When you paste a brief into another tool, that tool's own terms apply to what you share.

Diagnostics

Diagnostics are user-initiated. If you export a diagnostic report to help investigate an issue, it is created locally for you to review and share. Diagnostic exports are designed to include app metadata, workspace counts, redacted log messages, performance summaries when available, and entitlement state instead of Markdown document bodies or raw absolute workspace paths.

Files changed outside Markpane

Your folders may also be touched by Git, iCloud Drive, Dropbox, other editors, or other tools you use. Those tools have their own behavior and privacy terms. Markpane reads and writes the local files available to it.

This website

The Markpane app and the markpane.com website are separate surfaces. This launch site does not include analytics scripts, tracking pixels, session replay, newsletter forms, support widgets, or tracked video embeds. If the website later adds analytics, forms, support uploads, or embedded services, this page will be updated before those tools are used.
